The Outhouse , New Delhi
Architecture | Interior Design | Landscape | Furniture
Evolution of a primitive shelter, the structure is synonymous to a barn, the sophisticated material palette and minute design details create a feeling of luxury, while the memory of a shelter under the trees has been conserved. The Outhouse is an annex to the family home, designed to be a ‘modest’ bachelors pad, We sought to create a space that would invite its inhabitants into a close relationship with the outdoors while providing warmth and utmost comfort.
The exterior of the abode is characterized by exposed concrete walls, a zinc-cladd gable roof, and a timber pergola that cast shadow patterns over the pool. The entrance is through a metal pop-out, that mimics entering a cave, adding an element of surprise of what’s behind the door. Exposed concrete walls and substantial use of timber provide a feeling of warmth and enclosure. The muted color palette and minimal furnishings do not distract from the beautiful views of the lush green lawn and the strategically placed pool. Calculated openings and a slit-pitched skylight ensure the space is showered with natural light from sunrise to sunset.
