Lighthouse | Farmhouse , New Delhi

A contemporary home that both respects and takes advantage of its extraordinary setting. The vision was to create a simple but unique living environment that celebrates the already existing greens, employing its main feature – the tranquil atmosphere of a natural forest. The house is an aggregation of two volumes, juxtaposed one above the other. The lower is a glass box punctuated by rhythmically placed precast columns, which creates a permeable barrier between the inside and the outside. The upper volume is a timber envelope with open-able louvered timber panels, that lets the user interacts with the greens as per their whim, creating a dynamic facade. The solid volume appears to float above the glass box.

The relationship with the site is a key element in the design of the house. We strategically designed a meticulous linear home and placed it in the southwest corner of the site, to maximize the sprawling lawn and use the existing 10m long silver oak trees, as shading tools from the harmful sun. The staff quarters, parking spaces, and the outhouse are placed in one corner, limiting the staff and visitors’ access.
